Thousands flocked to a small shrine here Sunday to take part in the Kanamara Festival, an event with roots dating back centuries and known for its huge consecrated phallus portable shrine carried mostly by transvestites.

    … well… I dunno about that. Looks like any other fertility festival. As Minazuki says, they’re praying for children. It’s done in dozens of countries. In the US, we just don’t do it because PENIS IS BAD. Hell, sex is BAD, but we think about it all the time, ne?
